Block Websites In Microsoft Windows Easily

Internet is an awesome thing like you can browse different, the stuff you want and the stuff you like but this doesn't mean at all that you can only browse the stuff you like. Even you can go browsing the stuff you don't like - BY ACCIDENTS.
If you have kids, its obvious of you being worried for them about where are they spending their time on the Web as Web is not a name of a small town with a bunch of geeky high school kids but the Web consists of extremely 'evil' things too. Child Monitory software are another thing, those are for you to monitor your children, but if you have got a PC on which Microsoft Windows is installed and you want to block a couple of websites then this tutorial is for you. This tutorial, as far as we know works on all the modern versions of Microsoft Windows like Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1. Just follow the following steps to know how to block a website on Microsoft Windows 8:   Opening Notepad Press the Windows logo button. Now search notepad. Right-click it and click Run as administrator at the bottom of the screen.   Now click the Yes button when a small dialogue box appears asking that Do you want to allow this program to make following changes to this computer?.   Opening Hosts File 1) After opening Notepad, click File. 2) Click Open. 3) Now follow this address:
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc

C:\ here represents the drive in which Windows is installed on our computer as it usually is in C:\ in most computers, if your OS is installed in a different drive then change the C:\ to its name.

4) Now when you'll appear in the etc folder you'll see that it is empty. Just change Text Documents (*.txt) to All Files.

Now you''ll be able to see around 5 files. Click the file named hosts and click Open.

Editing Hosts File

Now when it will open. It will look like this:

Leave a line after localhost by pressing two times Enter key and type:
127.0.0.1

And after 127.0.0.1 type sitename.com (sitename should be replaced with the name of site, like if you want to block Facebook you'll have to write 127.0.0.1 facebook.com)

So it will look like this:

Now open the website you blocked, on every web=browser you have got installed on your PC, but before checking delete the browsing history and cache data of each browser. We hope that the website won't open but sometimes it happens that the website opens with the www. address so in this case you'll have to put another line of 127.0.0.1 and address of the same website with www.

So it would look like this:

Now try to open the blocked website on every web-browser with and without www. and you'll see that the blocked website won't open.

If this method is not working for you, share your problems in our forum.
