The Good Things...
Well, where to start the good things...? Yeah, MediaFire has updated its GUI (Graphical User Interface) and we promise you that we find the new interface really cool and smooth. Moreover, MediaFire gives you 10GB free for a Basic account and the space can be a little expanded by using the referral program which means that you are given a link and you have got to share that link and when other folks after clicking that link sign up successfully on MediaFire (and have confirmed their email address) you are given some additional GBs. Here are some ways through which you are able to increase your free space in Basic plan:
The Basic package ain't got much features except this referral thing and a free 10GB space. On the whole, including all of the packages here are some super-cool features of MediaFire:
- Instant 10 GB of free storage
- Upload files as large as 25 GB
- No bandwidth limits
- Can share files and folders with anyone
- Desktop and mobile app
- Non-users can upload to your account
The Bad Things...
The bad things are though few but still noticeable. The first thing is that MediaFire is only giving 10GB to its free users whereas there are other cloud storage options that offer more than 10GB like 15GB and even there are those cloud storage companies that offer 50GB free to its users so basically space is a thing in which MediaFire can be defeated in competition with other cloud storage options.
There are some little cons too:
- Must sign on to your account once a year to prevent expiration
- Supported by advertisements
- No option for bandwidth control when uploading files
How to sign up...?
Signing up for MediaFire is pretty simple. Click the following button:
Now if you are already on the Sign Up page then proceed but if you are not then click the Sign Up link and you'll see a screen like this:
Choose the plan you want and proceed:
Fill in all the essential details and click the rectangular blue button. After that you have got to confirm your Email address and start uploading.
Our thoughts on MediaFire
Our first impression about MediaFire is really positive - not because we ourselves became successful in getting the whole 50GB of space after using it for 1 and a half years but because its awesome. And you would be thinking why it is awesome...? The simple answer is that just think how easy it is to upload all your important files or if you are running a software blog then how easy to upload all your zipped software. It works so smooth and what more would you want when it offers a desktop application through which you can upload all your files right from your desktop.
We especially like the FileDrop feature that’s available for folders. We are able to see use for this if others need to send us files that are too large to send over email. You can get email alerts and even subscribe to folder changes via RSS.
While uploading files with the desktop software, you can easily pause the transfer if it’s taking too long or using too much bandwidth. On that note, the Mediafire desktop app unfortunately doesn’t allow altering the upload bandwidth limit. Uploading at full capacity may slow down Internet access elsewhere on your network.
We’ve used Mediafire for a long time, but just to download files from others. Only recently have we started using it as online storage, and we ain't surprised how simple and intuitive the web and desktop apps are.
